Wordpress or Blogspot

The very first blogs I wrote were using Blogspot and at the time I was quite happy with them. Since then blogging websites have become far more sophisticated and Wordpress has really taken over as the number one blogging website. Since I made the move, I haven’t looked back and if you are wondering whether to make the move or not, in my opinion, you can’t do it soon enough.

Apart from all the work in setting everything up again, there is also the question of losing the content. Well, the answer is you really don’t have to worry about it. I’m going to share with you what I did when I migrated from Blogspot to Wordpress.

It doesn’t really matter if you are going to use a blog hosted by Wordpress or one with your own hosting setup, the procedures to follow are still the same.

1. Set up your new Wordpress Blog.

2. Leave one final post on your old Blogspot blog along the lines of:

“This is the final post on this blog on here as we are migrating to Wordpress. Our new blog can be found at http://www.mynewblog.com. Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you at our new home”

This takes care of redirecting visitors to your new blog but what about all the content from Blogspot?  The answer is simple, just move that as well. Wordpress will allow you to back-date posts. Just go through your old posts on Blogspot and copy them over to create new posts in your new Wordpress blog.

There is no good reason to remove your old posts on Blogspot. They will have aged in the search engines and will still have value. Your content will be repeated but as the posts are on different servers, there is no issues with Google penalising your blog for duplicate content.

So if you are still on Blogspot and thinking about moving to Wordpress, I have just one question.

“What are you waiting for?”
